At various times in my life I have been guilty of using the lottery approach. In other words, sitting around pushing the button waiting to hit the jack pot with lights flashing and the instant relief that things are grand. A few specific pieces to this puzzle include: being healthy, spending my limited funds wisely, and finding work that I love. I can remember specific instances in my life that these all felt like daunting tasks so I would, consequently, push them to the back burner, "tomorrow." Tomorrow I will be better. Tomorrow I will quit this job with an awful boss. Tomorrow I will go to yoga. Tomorrow I'll start to draw. It didn't take long to realize that I am the creator of my destiny and the measurer of my success.
In the past year I have really changed my thinking. I can admit that, at times, I take a couple steps backwards, but ultimately I have been growing and learning about how to be better in each of these so called 'pillars' of life. I am now participating in a series of podcasts: a journey to the good life: a rewiring of the brain. They are reinforcing my goals and are allowing me to craft and tweak them so that they will be realized faster and better. I don't want to wake up tomorrow and be perfect because then what? I'm excited about this journey.
"Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up. Discharge your duties faithfully and well. Step by step you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts. But you build discipline by preparing for fast spurts. Slug it out one inch at a time, day by day. At the end of the day, if you live long enough, most people get what they deserve." -Charles T. Munger
